Area of an Ellipse

a: the length of the short axis
b: the length of the long axis

The area of an ellipse is given by:

A = Π ∙ a ∙ b

Π defines the ratio of any circle's circumference to its diameter and is approximately equal to 3.141593, however the value 3.14 is often used.

Example: Determine the area of an ellipse that is defined as below:
a = 10 m
b = 15 m

A =
Π ∙ a ∙ b = 3.14 ∙ 10 ∙ 15 = 471 m2
